Man Utd suffer huge blow as key man McTominay 'could be out for EIGHT weeks'

Manchester United fear they could be without Scott McTominay for up to eight weeks after scans confirmed injured knee ligaments.

The news is a blow to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer particularly as Paul Pogba has complained of a reaction to his foot injury which makes him a doubt for Wednesday's trip to Arsenal.

Solskjaer had originally hoped McTominay would be out for just four weeks but United's medical team have returned a more pessimistic verdict.

Solskjaer had asked United's hierarchy to find him two new midfielders for January regardless of the situation with McTominay and Pogba but his need could be all the more pressing if the problematic Frenchman continues to stay on the sidelines.

Solskjaer was left angry by Erling Haaland's decision to join Borussia Dortmund but is hopeful the club can deliver at least one new player for January.

United have been linked with a move for Benfica's Gedson Fernandes, however, the 20-year-old is not high on the club's list having played just eight times for the Portuguese club this season.

They remain admirers of Aston Villa's Jack Grealish and Christian Eriksen at Tottenham but both would be more realistic summer options.
