Eriksen 'practically certain to leave Tottenham on a free as Man Utd eye move'

Christian Eriksen is 'practically certain' to leave Tottenham with the Dane out of contract this summer, according to reports.

Eriksen has stalled on agreeing a new deal and Portuguese outlet Record report in a column by Eladio Parames, a close friend of Spurs boss Jose Mourinho, that his departure is almost a 'certainty'.

Tottenham could try to cash in on him in January but with very few clubs likely to meet their £40million valuation - in the knowledge he is available for nothing in six months - Eriksen looks set to hold out until the end of the season, with Manchester United reportedly keen on a move for him.

Parames said: 'Perhaps it is possible to see the magic that Mourinho invented to positively manage Eriksen's presence for the final months.

'The zero-cost exit is practically certain.'

Eriksen pushed for a move to Real Madrid last summer but was unable to land a deal with the Spanish giants.

Given the playmaker will be available for nothing, he will be inundated with offers, one of which is expected to be Manchester United, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to add experience and creativity to his midfield.

Mourinho has given Eriksen a largely peripheral role since he took over from Mauricio Pochettino and has remained coy on the future of the Dane when quizzed on it.

'The only thing I will tell you about Christian is that I would like him to sign a new contract. Apart from that I'm not going to tell you anything,' Mourinho said earlier this month.

'If I was Christian, I would stay,' he added, in another press conference.

'He has been living the life of the club for the last five or six years. The transition from White Hart Lane to the best stadium in the world and knows the perspectives of the future and the vision of the club.'

At 27, Eriksen provides a manager with plenty of experience and also a dead-ball specialist, as he showed with his goal from a free-kick in the 2-2 draw with Norwich last week.

His output has dropped off in recent seasons, though, with his future uncertain. Eriksen has made 22 appearances this season but has managed just three goals and three assists.
