Koeman was a renowned footballer and was capped for the Netherlands on 78 occasions, representing his country at the 1990 and 1994 FIFA World Cup. He was also part of the Netherlands squad that lifted the UEFA European Championship in 1988.
Capable of playing as a defender and a midfielder, Koeman also won the European Cup with PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona, as well as league titles in the Eredivisie and La Liga.
The Dutchman started his managerial career with Vitesse in 2000 and led the club to a UEFA Cup spot before taking over at Ajax in December 2001.
As former Everton and Southampton manager, he was appointed as Netherlands manager in February 2018, was rushed to hospital in May with chest complaints but said afterwards he felt "fit as a fiddle".
