Man utd news updates live:
Manchester United are keen on signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as an alternative to Bruno Fernandes, according to reports from Italy.
The Red Devils have been strongly linked with a move for Portugal international Fernandes for the past few weeks but have yet to make an approach.
And now Lazio midfielder Milinkovic-Savic is being tipped to complete a move to Old Trafford instead.
Initial reports claimed Lazio were happy to accept a bid of around £70million for the midfielder as they are looking to cash in on the Spanish-born Serbia international.
Manchester United are only prepared to pay around £64million to sign Milinkovic-Savic, but Lazio sporting director Igli Tare is said to be having 'ongoing talks' with the Red Devils, suggesting there is still hope.
However, fresh reports from Gazzetta dello Sport, per SportWitness, claim the deal has hit another road block because Lazio president Claudio Lotito is looking for a fee in excessive of £100million.
The alleged asking price would of course rule Manchester United out of a deal for the midfielder, unless they sell Paul Pogba and make Milinkovic-Savic their number one target.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has splashed £68million so far this transfer window bringing in Daniel James from Swansea City and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.
The bank isn't entirely empty, but you would think if he has to pick between his two midfield targets then Fernandes - who could be available for around £32million - would win the race being the more financially viable option.
