Diogo Dalot says he wants to make a statement and prove to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he is more than capable of playing right-back for Manchester United .
Jose Mourinho signed the Portuguese youngster from Porto back in 2018 with the idea that he would eventually become the club's long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia.
Dalot was used sparingly by Solskjaer last season, but the Norwegian isn't convinced he's currently good enough for the Premier League and is targeting Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Red Devils initially made a £40m bid for the England Under-21s defender, which was promptly rejected by Palace. They upped their bid by £10m, but this has also been rejected, with the south London side holding out for £60m.
United may find they have been priced out of the transfer, and Dalot is hoping to prove to his boss that this isn't the end of the world.
"I want to make my statement in the team and play as much as I can at right-back because I think it's my best position. I just need to prove that to the manager with my work," Dalot told Man United's official website.
"At the end of the season, the results were not what we wanted. But I can say it was a big season for me.
"Playing 23 games, and I only started playing properly and had my fitness in December, so it has been very good for me to have the opportunity to play in some different positions.
He added: "I know that some people thought I might come here and not play as much as I have this season. Some people thought I would play more.
"We all have different opinions but, overall, I think it was a very good season to settle in, start to know the club, know the league, know the atmosphere and now there is no excuse for next season."
"I just need to push on. My goal is to make right-back my own."
