Tottenham 'join race for Lingard' as Mourinho eyes a reunion with Man United man

Tottenham have joined the race to sign Jesse Lingard on loan from Manchester United, with Sheffield United and West Ham also keen on landing the midfielder on loan for the rest of the season.

That's according to talkSPORT, who say the Premier League trio are eyeing a move alongside French club Nice and Portuguese side Porto.

But a move to White Hart Lane would see Lingard reunite with old boss Jose Mourinho, who the Spurs boss knows well from his time at Old Trafford.

Together, they won the League Cup and the Europa League in 2017 and the following year, Lingard enjoyed most prolific campaign of his career by scoring 13 times in a season.

So far in 2020-21, Lingard has only made three appearances for United and they have all come in domestic cup competitions, yet Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be cold on the idea of Lingard departing.

United's schedule until the end of the season will intensify when the Europa League campaign resumes in February, while Solskjaer must also be mindful of a potential Covid-19 outbreak impacting the players he has available at any point.

Lingard's deal was automatically extended by another year recently so he doesn't leave on a free transfer, meaning he has 18 months remaining on his current Old Trafford terms.

A move to West Ham would also see him join up with another former United boss in David Moyes, who has overseen an encouraging campaign at West Ham to date - the Hammers are seventh in the Premier League standings and just two points off fourth.

Should Lingard head to Brammall Lane, he'd be joining a relegation fight with Chris WIlder's men, who have only won once all season in the Premier League.

But Lingard could also be in action for United in their next game as it is in the FA Cup - they host fierce rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.
