Inter Milan's Romelu Lukaku hails Man United as he admits he 'expected' attacking trio to flourish

Former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has praised his old club.

Lukaku scored a brace against Shakhtar Donetsk in a 5-0 win to send Inter Milan through to the Europa League final.

However, he was denied a reunion with United as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were beaten by Sevilla.

Lukaku endured some difficult moments at Old Trafford but he spoke highly of the club and in particular the attacking triumvirate of Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

Speaking on BT Sport, he said: 'United tried their hardest. I think they had a really good season. I think Ole did a good job.

'The players I think they did really well. Greenwood's coming through, Martial and Rashford, I expected all of that, so I'm really happy for them and they look really good for next season I have no doubt.'

Lukaku joined United from Everton in 2017 for a reported initial fee of £75million. He scored 42 goals in 96 appearances for the club but didn't win any trophies before joining Inter last year.

While he looked dejected at times at United, Lukaku has enjoyed a new lease of life at Inter and has produced some excellent performances.

In total he has scored 33 goals in 50 games for Inter, while he has scored in ten consecutive Europa League games.

Lukaku was pleased with the performance that Inter produced against Shakhtar, with Lautaro Martinez also scoring twice and Danilo D'Ambrosio finding the net.

However, the Belgium international acknowledges that Inter will face a tough task in the final against Sevilla on Friday.

He said: 'The team's doing well, everybody's trying to do their best. Physically and tactically everybody is at 100 per cent.

'We knew that as long as we kept the centre of defence closed we wouldn't have any problems. Our physicality was too much for him.

'I think at the minute everything is going well. Records are nice to be broken but we need to win and Sevilla are the favourites.'
