De Gea is ready to sign new deal with Man Utd (Mirror)
David De Gea is making it clear to Manchester United that he is ready to commit himself to a new deal.
United will still have to come up with a mega contract to keep De Gea , but there is now confidence on both sides that they can make it happen.
It must be seen as a huge endorsement for interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Spain goalkeeper had been concerned about the direction the club were going as he is determined to win major trophies.
United triggered a 12-month extension in November which definitely keeps De Gea at Old Trafford until 2020 but are desperate to tie him down even longer.
De Gea, 28, is widely regarded as the best keeper in the world and although talks have been ongoing, there were concerns about United going backwards under Jose Mourinho.
But Solskjaer has inspired an improvement in results after six wins in a row and De Gea delivered a heroic display in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Tottenham at Wembley.
That highlighted the former Atletico Madrid stopper's value to the club and they will have to make him one of their best paid players, even though keepers rarely get the same money as big-name strikers or other outfield stars.
De Gea has always made it clear how much he loves United and has been encouraged by the club clearly making big changes to show a determination to get back to the top.
De Gea has won a Premier League title with United — their last one, six seasons ago — but would have hoped for more big trophies during his seven and a half years at Old Trafford.
There would be no shortage of takers if he became available, but United are now hopeful that the return of the feel-good factor around the club will help them keep one of their most important players.
