Ronaldo missed a penalty during Juventus’ win over Chievo on Monday night. So where does that put him in the penalty stakes alongside Lionel Messi?
That miss was Ronaldo’s 25th out of the 139 he has taken during his career - including penalty shootouts.
Lionel Messi has missed the same number, but has only taken 108.
That gives Ronaldo a success rate of 82.01 per cent.
Messi, who has scored 83 of his 108, boasts a success rate of 76.85 per cent.
Messi’s worst penalty ratio is for Argentina, only scoring 11 from 16 - giving him a ratio of 75 per cent.
Ronaldo has also struggled internationally with seven goals from 11 penalties - giving him an 83.73 per cent record.
Ronaldo missed against Austria at Euro 2016 and also failed to score against Chelsea in the 2008 Champions League final for Manchester United.
In terms of regular goals, both Ronaldo and Messi are chasing down Pele’s record of domestic strikes.
Messi has a total of 577 goals in 661 appearances for his beloved Barcelona, after making his debut in 2004.
Pele, who played for Santos between 1956 and 1974, scored a total of 619 goals in 638 games
Ronaldo, who wouldn’t rule himself out of beating Pele’s total, has scored an impressive 589 goals in 790 games.
